UNIVERSITY OF CINCINNATI EMERGENCY TEXT MESSAGING
As part of a comprehensive effort to inform its community of any emergencies that might arise on campus, the University of Cincinnati now offers an emergency text messaging service. Participation is voluntary. UC Public Safety will utilize the system at its discretion if there is an imminent situation that threatens the safety and security of the campus community or to announce a weather-related university closing.

The university encourages students to sign up. You will need to provide your cell phone number and your cell carrier. Please note that international cell phone numbers will not currently work with the text messaging system.

The university will test the system quarterly in order to determine if it is working properly, but you will not receive non-emergency or advertising messages. UC will not sell your information. Normal text messaging rates will apply; check your wireless plan to determine relevant charges.

Enrolled UC students can sign up or update their information at any time at the following link:

TELECOMMUNICATIONS HARASSMENT
HARASSING PHONE CALLS
It is a crime under state and federal law for anyone to make obscene or harassing telephone calls. In Ohio, the law imposes penalties of up to five years’ imprisonment and/or a $500 fine. In Kentucky, it’s imprisonment for a term not exceeding ninety days and/or a $250 fine.

HOW TO TREAT HARASSING TELEPHONE CALLS
If you receive obscene, abusive, threatening, or harassing calls: HANG UP IMMEDIATELY! Never give out information until the caller has been identified. Instruct members of your residence hall room or household, especially children, not to give out any information to strangers.

If harassing calls continue, contact the University Police at 513-556-1111 or 513-558-1111 for information on what options are available to you. Keep a log of dates and times of the calls.
